White Guava (Psidium guajava)
Indian White Guava or Lucknow 49, is highly sought after in Asia for its great fruit yield. This guava is very rare in NZ, producing large fruit for eating fresh off the tree or canning and preserving. The Lucknow 49 guava is well known as a sweet flavouring variety with few soft seeds, milky white flesh, a greenish-yellow thick skin and a prolific bearer.
The ripe guava can be halved and eaten from the shell or sliced and combined with other fruit. Guava can be pureed and made into sauces, sorbets, and mousses, or cooked down into a firm paste and sliced. It can be made into jellies, jams, and preserves. Guava can also be juiced.
